I understand there are abominations, and monstrosities that should be forgotten and erased from history, but even hurricanes have names.

He's alive. No matter what anyone else says, he's alive. Gabriel Goodman died when he was eighteen months old. He died, but he continued to linger. His family never grieved him, and his mother never could put his soul to rest. He let his family's dysfunction bring him ever more firmly into being, raveled tight into something worth knowing by his mother's grief and illness, his father's denial, his sister's resentment. Even when they tried to cloud him from Diana Goodman's memories, he stayed, biding his time until he could return. Until they grieve him, they would never leave him behind. It's funny. All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to.

When one spends their entire life knowing they will be ignored, bracing themselves to be little more than a fragment of someone else's fantasy, prepared always be skimming the edges off of another's emotional state, it's difficult to bear being confronted with someone who truly and genuinely seems to want to help. Who calls you innocent, even if you're not. Why would she say something like that to him?
